#
Research & Ideation
Approach

The approach was based on the following model and the project was divided in phases owing to its enormity

  • Identify : Understand the vision of stakeholders and help them identify the need for the tool and ultimately assist in establishing the tool's value proposition

  • Interview : Based on the generative approach, interview users identified during the initial discussions in the project

  • Test : Create a minimal concept of the product and get it tested by users and use that understanding to help set the value proposition of the tool

Observations

Lack of Awareness

Lack of awareness among users on the advantages or responsibility of updating information in the existing system.

Time Taking Process

Cumbersome and time consuming process involving coordination among several departments, and investing time in collating and analyzing data for each request.

No Sync with PM Tools

No sync of data with project management tools such as Trello, Jira, Slack, etc..

Multiple Data Sources

To fetch data in the desired format from multiple departments such as HR, IT, Departmental Data, etc. for effective usage.

Time Taking Process

Cumbersome and time consuming process involving coordination among several departments, and investing time in collating and analyzing data for each request.

Technology Heterogeneity

To craft a solution bearing in mind the technologies used to store data so there is no complication while fetching them.

Understanding ecosystem of all Teams

Understanding of the processes of teams at an org level was essential since the primary objective was to cater to the needs of each and every team, and provide a meaningful solution for everyone

Global Leader

To have access to all data but not responsible to make edits or grant rights.

Super Manager

To have access to team related data but not responsible to make edits or grant rights.

Manager

To have access to all team related data & responsible to make edits or grant rights.

Personas

Basis the requirement, we identified different user personas.

Challenges

To fully understand end-to-end functions of this team and their impact within the larger organization. The value proposition for the performance tracker had to be drafted post discussions and consultations with over 20 stakeholders including business leads/ managers, IT consultants, and HR.

Key Observations/Pain Points

All pain points, given multiple types of users, were addressed during the initial phase of the project using the matrix diagram.:

Multiple Data Sources

Multiple data sources resulting in scattered information.

Planning & Prototyping
Approach/ Set Process

To work with stakeholders and draft Epics and user stories to ensure correct documentation of requirements, basis which tasks were to be created. This served as a base for setting up of the initial tech arch handed over to the vendor development team. My role was to work with the internal dev team and ensure seamless implementation.

To be Consumer Journey:

Initial Wireflows

Architecture & Initial Information

Admin View

The most crucial part of the project since it had multiple degrees of permission for every user type. Hence, it required precision to consider even account edge cases as a single error could cascade into various issues with the data

Front Facing

An end-to-end flow was created to be tested by users, along with an interview guide in place and the prototype testing was done by 20+ moderators and observers.

Multi-level Aggregation

Enabling the tool to gather information from users across Sites by either adding information in one location or fetching data in the appropriate way.

Custom Filtering

Enabling receipt of correct data for managers on every login, by applying appropriate criteria and saving customized search features.

Minimum Redirections

Providing maximum information within the app, without making the user exit the tool to consume more information.

Wireframes and User-flows

The project demanded diligent planning and approval on the flow from all stakeholders, to avoid conflicts later, and also to provide a thorough documentation to the external development team. The tool consisted of : a front facing view and an admin view.

Sprint Planning

The project was divided into three phases, each consisting of 16 sprints, and every sprint to continue for two weeks. Meticulous planning was done for each of the sprints to avoid spill overs or impediments on the tasks, before they were assigned to participants.

Opportunities

3 primary offerings as shortlisted by stakeholders for Phase 1

Product Concept Wireframing

Jira Sprints

Objective/Problem

To build a tool to capture and track performance for a BCG Team, thereby, demonstrating their value add to the overall organization

My Role

To be an on-site design consultant at the Gurugram office, working in close collaboration with stakeholders, product owner, and the vendor team, ensuring successful implementation of the product

Design & Development
Approach

To craft a design system for best usability experience for different machines and resolutions with carefully adjusted sizing and spacings, applicable to multiple breakpoints within desktops. Special attention was given to creation of new assets as everything needed to be in sync with the BCG brand guidelines.

Observations

Going through the entire build to list down discrepancies in the designed solution

Remote Testing

Organizing rapid testing of 30+ tasks distributed among 20 moderators, primarily to validate design decisions made so far.

Loading Period

This was vital since we wanted to ensure that the process moved along quickly and caused as few obstacles as possible for them.

Design Review

A critical part of the project during which the product went through a final QC to ensure consistency of design and adherence to the brand visual strategyEven

Design System

The product being developed in phases, it was important that the entirety of experience didn't get affected, hence a robust design system was created while ensuring a thorough documentation of defining all aspects of the product right from image dimension to states.

Design Principles

It being an internal tool, there was a need to apply BCG business principles and global brand guidelines to it. While the final design reflected some of the striking features of the brand guidelines, it also evoked emotions of a good user experience.
